Welcome to the 47th European Conference on Visual Perception,
which will take place in Mainz, Germany from Sunday 24th to Thursday 28th August 2025!

In 2025, the ECVP will be hosted in the city of Mainz (Germany). Mainz is a historic university city with more than 30,000 students, 4,500 scientists, and a total population of 220,000. It lies directly on the legendary River Rhine, surrounded by internationally renowned wine regions.

Mainz is known for its rich history and cultural heritage, especially as the birthplace of Johannes Gutenberg, the inventor of the printing press. The city’s charming old town is filled with half-timbered houses and impressive landmarks, such as the Mainz Cathedral, a Romanesque masterpiece. Mainz is easily accessible, with a central train station offering direct connections to major German cities, and it is only 30 minutes from Frankfurt International Airport, one of Europe’s largest travel hubs.

The conference will feature a diverse program of keynote lectures, symposia, talks, poster presentations, and workshops. The social programme includes the Welcome Reception, the Illusion & Demo Night, the Conference Dinner (separate registration required), and the Farewell Party. We are excited to bring back two popular innovations from the last ECVP: the PerceptioNite, a networking event for everybody (young at heart <3), and the Spotlight in Vision keynote lecture, which will highlight new and relevant findings in vision science.

As part of a long-standing tradition, the Visual Science of Art Conference (VSAC) will be held just before the ECVP, from August 21st to 23rdalso in Mainz. We are eagerly looking forward to it! More information is available at the VSAC website

As a special feature, the MANER (Material Appearance Network for Education and Research) Conference will be held in cooperation with ECVP from August 28th to 29th. On Day 1 there will be joint sessions alongside ECVP, bringing together experts from different fields involved in material perception. ECVP participants are also invited to attend Day 2 of the MANER Conference, which will be hosted at Fraunhofer IGD in Darmstadt (40 km from Mainz) on Friday, immediately following ECVP. For Day 1, no additional registration is required for ECVP participants. For Day 2, a separate registration is required. Details will follow soon. Further information about the MANER Conference is available at the MANER website.

Researchers at all levels are encouraged to submit symposium proposals, conference abstracts and contributions for the Illusion & Demo Night through an open call process.

We look forward to welcoming you in Mainz!
